I apologize for the delayed post on this. The database has been fixed, and the server is up.
Double voting and double donations are activated.
We will be updating all 3 of our clients with a massive update that includes more customs and many fixes to current content. I still don't know exactly when this will be completed, but we will keep you posted with more updates and we will be slowly updating the server with some of the current content already added on the other 2 servers, but with the JM play style.
The server is currently down due to a database error. The error is easy to fix, but something else is also wrong with my access to the database. We've been waiting for Tcholok to show up and fix it.
I can't believe it's been two months since I have posted anything here, and that I totally forgot to activate double voting/donations, and post about my newborn son. There is so much neglect here, it's really not cool. Sorry, I will do better.
So I had a son on May 5th, we named him Russell. He was 9 lbs 5 oz.
I will activate both double voting and double donations when the server goes live again. There will also be compensation sent out for the downtime. I'm also going to send out bananas to everyone as an apology for my neglect.
There is much to do, and rather than talk about it, I must start doing it.
I will post an update when the server is back up. Currently it has been down for more than 24 hours, our longest downtime in the 3 years since we first opened the server the first time.
As some of you know I moved to a new place just yesterday. The last few weeks have been difficult for me to balance the servers, my other development work, my family, packing, etc.
I'm happy to announce that I'll be able to resume a more regular schedule now that the move is completed.
I apologize for the constant delays this has caused with patching, faction changes, and whatever else has been delayed.
The patch we have been working on is simply too large to be done all at once. So we're going to split it into parts. I've been trying to think of people with low bandwidth limits and reduce the amount of times that they would have to download large files, however this is heavily delaying development and is really not feasible for this particular patch. I apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
I will absolutely be doing faction changes and gear changes tomorrow morning, I should start them around 12- 14 hours from the time of this post.
I don't have an exact timeline on the first step of the patch, but it will most likely happen tomorrow evening for MD-Regen, and Tuesday for JM. Sunstrider's patch is entirely different and I have no timeline on that, however there will be a small patch for Sunstrider tomorrow for some critical fixes that should have been implemented weeks ago.
Sorry to report we had to do a 14 hour rollback today. I setup our incremental backup system yesterday which takes hourly snapshots of all important game data to minimize lost time should we have to recover from any disastrous situations. This new server runs all critical game components on a separate SSD (for speed). The side effect of that is much less disk space, and unfortunately our pruning process (that cleans up older backups) was not tuned for this lower disk space. Over night the backups filled up the drive and affected how the main database was saving data (it wasn't).
When I discovered that this morning, I was able to get it to save everything from memory to disk and result was pretty amazing - we recovered all current data for over 50,000 characters. Unfortunately, about 70 characters were destroyed in the process as well as some other data that we aren't fully aware of. This was not acceptable and we had no way to recover it, so we were forced to roll back 14 hours to our last suitable backup.
To prevent this from happening again, all backups have been moved to secondary drives so they can't possibly affect the operating server.
My sincerest apologies, and I really think this is the last bump in the road. Thanks for understanding.
The Web Installer is fully repaired now.
